Super Duplex 255 Sheet & Plate (UNS S32550), often recognized by the trade name Ferralium 255, is the original "Super" duplex stainless steel. It is engineered with a 25% chromium content and a significant addition of copper (nominally 2%), which distinguishes it from other super duplex grades. This unique chemistry provides the alloy with exceptional resistance to strong reducing acids, particularly sulfuric and phosphoric acids, while maintaining the characteristic high mechanical strength of the duplex family.

Complying with ASTM A240 and ASME SA240, Grade 255 plates offer a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREn) greater than 40, ensuring total reliability in aggressive chloride environments such as seawater and brackish water. Beyond its chemical resistance, these plates exhibit superior wear, erosion, and cavitation resistance compared to standard austenitic steels. This makes them the premier choice for demanding applications in fertilizer production, marine propeller shafts, offshore oil and gas, and chemical scrubbers, where both mechanical durability and chemical inertness are critical for operational safety.
