SS 317/317L Plates represent a significant upgrade in corrosion performance over the standard 316 series, primarily due to their increased Molybdenum content (3.0% to 4.0%). This high-alloy composition provides exceptional resistance to chemical attack, particularly in environments containing sulfuric, acetic, formic, and tartaric acids. The 317L variant is a low-carbon version (0.03% max) that provides immunity to sensitization during welding, ensuring that the plates maintain their structural integrity and superior corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zones of large-scale fabrications.

Manufactured in strict accordance with ASTM A240 and ASME SA240, these plates are the industry standard for the most demanding "severe service" applications, such as pulp and paper manufacturing, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems, and chemical processing plants. SS 317/317L plates offer higher tensile and creep strength at elevated temperatures compared to conventional stainless steels. Their ability to resist pitting and crevice corrosion in high-chloride process streams makes them an indispensable solution for offshore oil and gas equipment and advanced pharmaceutical reactors where standard grades might fail.
