Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) Plates, manufactured to the ASTM B463 standard, are widely regarded as the "sulfuric acid alloy" due to their exceptional resistance to boiling sulfuric acid across a broad range of concentrations. Developed specifically for chemical processing applications, this nickel-iron-chromium alloy is fortified with significant amounts of copper and molybdenum, which provide excellent resistance to general corrosion and pitting in acidic environments. A defining characteristic of Alloy 20 is its stabilization with Niobium (Columbium), which minimizes the precipitation of carbides during welding, ensuring that the plates retain their full corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition.
The technical versatility of ASTM B463 Incoloy 20 makes it indispensable in industries where chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and phosphoric acid handling are major concerns. These plates offer a superior alternative to standard stainless steels in environments involving gasoline, solvents, explosives, and organic chemicals.
