Welcome to Golden Steel Material Let’s Talk
ASME SA 537 Class 2 Plates are the high-strength evolution of carbon-manganese-silicon steel, specifically engineered for the most demanding Pressure Vessel Quality (PVQ) applications. The defining distinction of Class 2 material is its heat treatment; while Class 1 is normalized, Class 2 plates undergo a rigorous Quenched and Tempered (Q&T) process. This metallurgical enhancement significantly boosts the yield and tensile strength, making it one of the strongest carbon steel options available under the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for fusion-welded vessels and structures.
The technical superiority of SA 537 CL.2 lies in its ability to handle extreme internal pressures with a minimum yield strength of 415 MPa (60 ksi). This increased strength allows engineers to significantly reduce plate thickness and overall vessel weight without compromising safety or structural integrity. It is exceptionally well-suited for heavy-wall pressure vessels, large-scale storage spheres, and high-pressure boilers used in the petrochemical, gas, and energy sectors. By choosing SA 537 Class 2, manufacturers benefit from a material that offers a rare combination of maximum load-bearing capacity, superior low-temperature notch toughness, and excellent weldability for critical industrial infrastructure.
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Grade | ASME SA 537 CL.2 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Steel Plates |
| Width | 1000mm-4500mm |
| Thickness | 5mm-150mm |
| Length | 3000mm-18000mm. |
| Supply Condition | As Rolled, Normalized Rolling, Furnace Normalizing, Vacuum Degassing, Simulated Post-Weld Heat Treatment or as per customer requirement. |
| Impact tested | -52° C |
| Tempering | Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F. |
