SS 321 Plates are titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel plates designed specifically for applications involving frequent exposure to high temperatures ranging from 425°C to 815°C. Unlike standard 300-series alloys, Grade 321 is alloyed with titanium in a quantity at least five times the carbon content. This addition prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding and high-temperature service, effectively eliminating the risk of intergranular corrosion. This makes SS 321 an indispensable material for heavy-duty welded components that cannot be annealed after fabrication.

Manufactured according to ASTM A240 and ASME SA240, these plates exhibit superior creep and stress rupture properties compared to Grade 304 and 304L. While SS 321 offers similar general corrosion resistance to 304, its primary advantage lies in its structural stability and oxidation resistance in aggressive thermal environments. Widely utilized in the aerospace, petrochemical, and automotive industries, our SS 321 plates are the preferred choice for manufacturing exhaust systems, thermal oxidizers, and high-temperature chemical processing equipment where safety and long-term durability are critical requirements.

SS 321 Plates Features

  • » Titanium Stabilization: Alloyed with titanium to prevent chromium carbide precipitation, ensuring the plate remains immune to intergranular corrosion in the weld heat-affected zone.
  • » High Temperature Range: Maintains excellent structural integrity and oxidation resistance in temperatures ranging from 425°C up to 815°C (1500°F).
  • » Superior Creep Strength: Exhibits higher long-term creep and stress rupture properties than Grades 304 and 304L, making it ideal for high-pressure thermal applications.
  • » Excellent Weldability: Can be welded using most conventional techniques; titanium stabilization removes the necessity for post-weld solution annealing to restore corrosion resistance.
  • » Resistance to Polythionic Acid: Highly effective in refinery environments where polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking is a concern during downtime.
  • » Cryogenic Performance: Like other austenitic grades, SS 321 retains excellent toughness and mechanical strength at sub-zero temperatures.
  • » Non-Magnetic Property: The material remains non-magnetic in the annealed condition, suitable for sensitive electronic and aerospace instrumentation.
  • » Abrasive Durability: Offers good resistance to scaling and vibrational fatigue, essential for exhaust manifolds and expansion bellows in heavy machinery.
