SS 430 Plates are non-hardenable ferritic stainless steel plates that combine good corrosion resistance and formability with useful mechanical properties. As a straight chromium grade, SS 430 is one of the most widely used ferritic stainless steels, offering excellent resistance to nitric acid, sulfur gases, and many organic acids. These plates are particularly noted for their aesthetic versatility, as they can be polished to a high luster, making them the industry standard for decorative trim and consumer appliance surfaces where a combination of durability and visual appeal is required.

Manufactured to meet ASTM A240 and ASME SA240 specifications, SS 430 plates exhibit superior thermal conductivity compared to austenitic grades like SS 304, which makes them highly efficient for use in heat exchangers and combustion chambers. While they are magnetic and not as resistant to pitting as the nickel-bearing 300-series, they provide exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking. » Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Provides high resistance to nitric acid, sulfur gases, and various organic acids, making it ideal for chemical and food processing.
» Superior Thermal Conductivity: Offers higher thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steels (like 304), allowing for efficient heat distribution in appliances and exchangers.
» Resistance to Stress Corrosion: As a ferritic grade, SS 430 is highly resistant to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, a common failure point for 300-series alloys.
» High Aesthetic Appeal: Easily polished to a bright, mirror-like finish (BA), making it the preferred choice for architectural trim and premium kitchen appliances.
» Good Oxidation Resistance: Capable of resisting oxidation in intermittent service up to 870°C (1598°F) and in continuous service up to 815°C (1499°F).
» Cost-Effective Solution: Because it contains no nickel or molybdenum, it is significantly more economical than Grade 304 while still providing excellent stainless properties.
» Magnetic Characteristics: Its ferritic structure makes it inherently magnetic, which is useful for induction-compatible cookware and magnetic separation applications.
» Durable Formability: Can be easily bent, drawn, and formed into various shapes, though it possesses lower work-hardening rates compared to austenitic grades.
