Hastelloy B2 (UNS N10665) Plates, manufactured in strict accordance with the ASTM B333 specification, are specialized nickel-molybdenum alloy plates engineered for supreme resistance to reducing environments. Unlike other nickel alloys that contain significant chromium for oxidation resistance, Alloy B2 is specifically optimized for handling hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures. Its unique chemical profile provides significant resistance to hydrogen chloride gas, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid, making it a cornerstone material for the most aggressive reduction-based chemical processes.
The technical utility of ASTM B333 Hastelloy B2 lies in its ability to maintain excellent ductility and corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition. By minimizing the formation of grain-boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, B2 plates ensure structural integrity and prevent localized attack in alkylation units, isomerisation systems, and vacuum distillation columns. It is important to note that while Alloy B2 is a powerhouse in reducing media, it is not recommended for use in the presence of ferric or cupric salts, which can trigger rapid corrosion. When applied correctly in chemical processing, pharmaceutical production, and pollution control equipment, Hastelloy B2 provides a long-lasting, reliable solution for high-concentration acid handling.
